The Perfect Yellow Dress

My love story with yellow dresses started 35 years ago when my mom bought me a gorgeous one. I was really in love with it and would twirl with it four hours. To me it was the greatest dress ever made, but over time I grew out with it and I had to give to my sister. I was so so sad and I felt like it was the hardest thing I would ever have to do, LOL.

A few weeks ago I was thinking about that little yellow dress, the one that made me so happy and made me feel like I was the most beautiful little girl in the world, and suddenly I came across this incredible yellow dress at Ace Hardware. Yes, I’m serious, ACE Hardware Story. This dress has such a cute style, it is definitely a little French touch.

It was love at first sight. I love all the details. I decided today to wear it with these booties and this jacket.

I know it’s a really simple Sunday outfit, but I LOVE it and I wasn’t really in the mood for a super fancy outfit.

Another feature I like is the V-neck. It’s not too deep and it also has a button that doesn’t allow the dress to open up and for a more modest look I add an undershirt.

This dress is really practical, comfy, and the fabric is really soft. If you can’t find it at ACE Hardware, I found the same dress with a different pattern in the link below. so, unfortunately, it’s not exactly the same, but it’s the same brand.

Overall outfit the dilemma!

This outfit will probably make you smile! I know, almost every women might say that it’s an outfit only for teenagers, or for skinny women, or for Halloween to look like a Minon! 😂😂

But no no no, you are wrong, every women in the world can pull of overalls! It’s all about what you wear with them. And they can be skinny or boyfriend style, they can both be great. Choose the one’s you feel more comfortable in and that you feel are more YOU!!!! Always be yourself.

Mine are a skinny denim overalls and I went with a really simple white T-shirt that I found at downaest. I matched them with white tassel earrings from Bohme.

I decided to pair them with light green booties. I like these because they have a medium size heels that makes you look way more feminine, more elongated. This fall they are very much in style in the USA. You need to have a pair and really there is no age limit for them everyone looks good in them.

To finish this outfit off, I added a jacket that I love. I have a big confession to make though, it’s so NOT French at all. We don’t wear camo. Camo is for army guys in France 😂. So, yep, I have been Americanized a little bit, it’s my American Flair for this outfit. I even think now that it’s really sad that camo isn’t something French girls consider–it can be so fun.

But you will ask me for sure what is french in this outfit? 🤔 Only me ! No it’s not true 😂🤪😂. I am wearing a red lipstick!! That is a little French touch.

Like I’ve said, French girls typically don’t have a very heavy make up. We try to be more discret and simple. That’s just cultural. But usually our lipstick is everything for us. Mine is Chanel Rouge Coco and the color is Carmen. I LOVE it.

So get crazy and dare to wear some overalls. They are HOT in America right now!

Grandma’s French Onion Soup Recipe

Since I have lived in America I have found one really funny thing, Americans LOVE French Onion Soup even more than the French! In fact, people want me to make it all the time and that’s funny to me because French people typically eat it ONLY at weddings. But I make it here because people say it is to die for after tasting my French Onion Soup and that makes me happy!!

French Onion Soup

Prep time: 30 minutes

Cook time: 3 hour, but the more you cook it the better it is

Yield: 4-6 servings

INGREDIENTS

  • 6 large sweet yellow onions
  • 4 Tbsp Olive oil
  • 2 Tbsp butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • Salt
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 8 cups of beef stock (if you use bullion “Better than Bouillon” is a good brand)
  • 1 cup sweet white wine
  • 2 bay leaves (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 8 inch-thick slices of French bread or baguette
  • 1 1/2 cups of grated Swiss Gruyere

DIRECTIONS

  1. Peel and thinly slice onions root to stem, you should have about 10 cups total when sliced.
  2. Caramelize the onions: In a 5 to 6 quart, thick-bottomed pot, heat 3 tablespoons of olive oil on medium heat. Add the onions and toss to coat with the olive oil.
  3. Cook the onions, stirring often, until they have softened, about 15 to 20 minutes.
  4. Increase the heat to medium-high. Add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil and the butter and cook, stirring often, until the onions start to brown, about 15 more minutes.
  5. Then sprinkle the sugar in to start the caramelization, add 1 teaspoon of salt and continue to cook until the onions are well browned, about 10 to 15 more minutes.
  6. Add the minced garlic and cook for one minute more.
  7. Deglaze the pot by adding the white wine to the onions and scraping up the browned bits on the bottom and sides of the pot, deglazing the pot as you go.
  8. Add the stock and bay leaves. Bring to a simmer, cover the pot and lower the heat to maintain a very low simmer. Cook for 1 to 3 hours—the longer the better. You can even place it in a crockpot and leave for hours.
  9. Season to taste with more salt and add freshly ground black pepper. Discard the bay leaves.
  10. While the soup is simmering, line a sheet pan with parchment paper or foil and preheat the oven to 450°F with a rack in the upper third of the oven.
  11. Brush both sides of the French bread or baguette slices lightly with olive oil.
  12. Put in the oven and toast until lightly browned, about 5 to 7 minutes. Turn and brown the other side. Remove from oven.
  13. Use individual sized oven-proof bowls. Ladle the soup into the bowls. Cover with the toast and sprinkle with Gruyere cheese. Put into the broiler for 10 minutes at 350° F, or until the cheese bubbles and is slightly browned.
  14. Remove from oven and let cool for 10 minutes and serve.

A Bad Mood Outfit, the Simple White Sweater

Some days I just wake up in a really bad mood and if I think about working out it makes it worse—I am definitely not a morning person. On these bad mood days I don’t even want to get dressed. I just want to stay in pyjamas, but suddenly I realize that I have a life and I need to get ready.

On bad mood days I don’t feel like taking a long time to choose what to wear, so I often just choose to wear a mono-color top. You might think it’s the most boring top ever, one you don’t even notice, but this type of top is really really French. We wear mono color a lot and we love simplicity.

I figured out that I don’t like to wear all white on top. For me I like to add a touch of color. So I opted for these beautiful light pink (rose) earrings.

Because remember I was in a bad mood, I went directly for jeans. The pants that always make me happy!!!

Oh yes I was thinking of something else! I love love these boots. They are really comfy . And the color is just a perfect taupe, that matches so great with warm and cool colors.

And because it’s fall and starting to give get some really chilly mornings, I treated myself with this adorable light pink jacket. I found it at Tjmaxx last week. If you are local and you like it RUN over to Tjmaxx!

Liège Waffle (Dessert Waffles)

First off: THESE ARE NOT ORDINARY WAFFLES!

Since they aren’t ordinary waffles some specialized ingredients are needed. The secret lies in the sugar it’s Lars Belgian Pearl Sugar. It used to be almost impossible to find, but it’s popping up more and more. Out of the 3 grocery stores closest to me, one of them carries it. You can also order it on Amazon here http://a.co/d/fNsaXBB. The other ingredients are normal and can be found at any grocery store.

A true Belgian waffle maker is needed to really get the perfect Liege waffle. Our standard waffle iron does not have deep enough pockets to really allow the batter to sink in and caramelize the sugar. It is also preferable to have an iron with an adjustable temperature, so the sugar has time to melt before the batter burns.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 package of yeast
  • 1/3 cup lukewarm water (not hot)
  • 1 ½ tablespoons regular granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 cups flour
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup melted real butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/3 cup pearl sugar

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Mix the yeast, water, sugar, and salt in a bowl and set aside.
  2. While the yeast is activating, place the flour in large mixing bowl and melt the butter.
  3. Add the yeast mixture to the flour and mix at medium speed until well blended.
  4. Add the eggs, butter, and vanilla and mix well. If the batter is very sticky it means you are doing it correctly.
  5. Set the dough aside to rise until it has doubled in size. Gently fold in the pearl sugar and allow the dough to rest once more while you wait for the waffle iron to heat.
  6. Spoon a 2-inch ball of dough into the waffle iron and bake until golden brown with slick sugar spots on the outside. Don’t be skimpy with the pearl sugar, even though it is expensive. The sugar makes the waffle.

Melted sugar is hot. Let the waffles cool a bit before indulging. It might take all the willpower you have, but your tongue will thank you.

Liege waffles freeze nicely and can be reheated at 200 degrees in the oven. Make a double batch. You’ll thank me tomorrow.

Toppings are not necessary for Liege waffles and typically are eaten without, but if you like you can drizzle with Nutella or put any toppings you wish.

This Turtleneck is the Stylish Top this Fall and Winter. Yes

Whenever I think of the word turtleneck, I cringe. I remember those horrible sweaters from my childhood. You know the ones. They were wool and super itchy. I wanted to scratch my skin so hard I thought I might start bleeding.

But today I found the holy grail of all turtleneck tops. This one is so so soft, comfy, and not too warm. The length of the sleeves also makes it possible to wear with jackets or cardigans.

I am wearing this top with a straight mom’s jeans. Yep, they are very fashionable this year—especially in Europe.

STYLE ALERT!

This blazer is one piece you really need to wear this fall/winter. I love the color, the length is what is making it very popular right now. You can wear it with pants, jeans, or even a dress. This blazer is the centerpiece of this outfit because of the pattern. So as I’ve talked about before, since the blazer is a patter, French girls try to keep the other pieces simple. This black turtleneck is perfect compliment to the blazer.

If you don’t like that blazer, I have your back. I found this one in France but last week when I was hunting, I mean shopping, I found out that you can buy this almost exact beauty at Tjmaxx.

I love these loafers SO much. I want to wear them every single day. They add the perfect French touch that I like. And because I am a mom I need really comfy shoes to run everywhere.

This Black Button Shirt is a Win!

So you know already if you read any of my other blog posts, that French women are in love with button shirts. It’s one of our favorite pieces of clothing for semi-casual and more dressed up outfits. This little beauty in black is a shirt you really need to own.

This black shirt is neutral and goes really well with both warm and cool colors. Most people look better in either cool or warm colors. Not many of us can pull off looking great in both. I am more of a warm color person.

Black shirts and especially button shirts can give you a classy touch and they definitely five a little French Flair.

Since you can wear black with either warm colors or cool ones, you should have one in your wardrobe.

I am wearing this beautiful piece with a mom’s cropped jeans 🤦🏼‍♀️ (why did they give it this name?). This style of jeans is really the fall trend, especially in France.

I was not a fan of leopard print when I first moved to the USA, but I have learned to love it. But maybe because I am French, I will probably always have a hard time wearing it on pants or tops. I am not ready yet 😂😂.

I love these shoes, they are so comfy and you can find them in small sizes. Did I mention my feet are really small? This is always a huge problem and I have a hard time finding my size in cute women’s shoes. So I typically search high and low for adorable tiny shoes. These are an awesome find, plus they are super cheap. There is one drawback, they come from China and if you want a pair they take 3 weeks to get them.🤪🤪

If you don’t want to wait 3 weeks, I found a gorgeous version from Nordstrom.

Mustard yellow can be a hard color to wear. I went with this really comfy sweaters, but if you have a hard time wearing it as a major outfit piece, you can definitely add this color on accessories like scarves or earrings.
